What is On Location?

On Location is a cooperative-with-a-twist ethics board game where players team up to design a cutting-edge mixed-reality experience for a cultural heritage site — only to discover that one of them, the secret Troll, is quietly working to derail the whole project from within.

Each player takes on a hidden Role with its own win conditions, deploying colour-coded Tactics as applications of broader Strategies to navigate thorny ethical conundrums in cultural heritage design.

Debate, persuasion, and shrewd strategy are essential, since Tactic choices lock in once discussions officially open, and identities stay concealed until the very end.

But cooperation has its limits: if the Troll succeeds, everyone else loses, no matter which Role requirements they’ve fulfilled, making trust, alliance, and suspicion the real currency of the game.
